Mi-Co e-Forms Save Advanced Home Care $250,000 per Year

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, October 15, 2008 – Advanced Home Care (AHC) recently discovered how to capture data faster, creating more time with patients and saving a projected $250,000 in the process. Allen Helms, CIO of the not-for-profit, hospital-affiliated organization, recognized the moment he saw handwriting capture in mobile e-forms, that it could eliminate many of the problems that bogged down his organization.

AHC is one of the largest, most comprehensive and technologically advanced home health care organizations in the Mid-Atlantic. The company offers a range of high-quality services and rents and sells doctor-prescribed home medical equipment.

AHC used a manual paper forms processes for its home medical equipment rental and sales process. This multi-step paper process was inefficient and often produced errors from missing or inconsistent data. The need to fax, interpret handwriting and manually key in paper forms data slowed the entry of orders, which in turn delayed payment submissions. Allen chose Mi-Co to automate the process.

“Mi-Forms offered us a way to vastly improve the way we did things by moving from paper to electronic data, while allowing our staff to continue working with the most user-friendly, natural electronic interface – handwritten forms,” Allen said. “The benefits have been tremendous.”

Mi-Co, which is attending the National Association of Home Care & Hospice Annual meeting, implemented its Mi-Forms solution with Motion Computing Tablet PCs to allow AHC liaisons to immediately capture handwritten information on electronic forms right at patient sites. The new system keeps the familiarity of the forms interfaces, reduces data errors and uses validation rules to ensure that all data required by insurance carriers is provided before the liaison completes the form. This also eliminates the need for “post processing” of the data by routing form data directly to the AHC Intake & Specialty Equipment Team.

The liaisons have embraced the new system. “Moving from paper forms to electronic “smart” forms at the point of service saves us time and money and allows our staff to serve patients’ needs more efficiently and accurately,” Allen said. “Using electronic data is the only way AHC can effectively increase our business and take the best possible care of our patients. Mi-Forms allows us to do that.”
